Abstract

In this article the author analyses Shiga Naoya’s Kurodiasu no nikki in relation to the original, or rather to the Japanese translation by Tsubouchi Shōyō, and to Shiga’s other works. Before doing this, she provide a brief account of the reception of Western literature in Japan in the Meiji period (1868-1911), and in particular of the reception of Shakespeare’s works at that time.
