Abstract

The present article, which is introduced by some general remarks on the language of the Scythians and the problems of its documentation and linguistic interpretation, intends to deal in a comprehensive way with the 26 Scythian personal names attested in Herodotus’s Histories. By this things shall be clarified as far as necessary for the systematic treatment of the prosopographical data and the etymological analysis of the names, which is to be included into the relevant volume of the Iranisches Personennamenbuch.
